Mason Mount’s contract talks with Chelsea have hit yet another obstacle. The two parties are quite far apart in terms of the financial aspect of the deal, which has caused the player’s entourage to reject the latest offer.
The England international has been offered a weekly wage worth £200,000 as part of his new deal. But, he is expecting a higher wage which is on the level of Raheem Sterling, one of the highest earners in the squad right now.
Mason Mount yet to agree new contract with Chelsea
The midfielder’s current deal expires in 2023, and he is one of the lowest-paid members of the team right now. He currently earns £85,000 per week, which is the same contract he signed after returning from Derby County, following his loan spell.
Since then, he has established himself as a regular in the team. Mason Mount has also earned consecutive player of the season awards from Chelsea – which highlights his importance further.
His friend and fellow Cobham graduate Reece James recently signed a new deal worth £250,000 per week. And Mount wants his contract to be above that, reflecting his contributions on the pitch.
The 23-year-old is among the best in his position, and Chelsea will not want to lose him for free or sell him anytime soon, considering his influence on the pitch for the Blues.
