Sergio Ramos is one of the greatest defenders of modern times. Along with being a dominant defender, he has more to his game than defending. His leadership skills are unparalleled. He has scored numerous goals for his former club Real Madrid, the most famous being the Champions League 2014 final equalizer at the 92:48 minute against Atletico Madrid.
However, Ramos went through a lot of injuries in the past few years. He didn’t play for Real Madrid in the latter part of the 2020-21 season and left the club for PSG after that season due to some contract renewal disputes. In his first season at PSG, he was also not consistent as he suffered from his injuries. And he hasn’t made it to the Spanish squad since he left the Spanish capital and missed the Euro 2020 as well due to injuries.

Sergio Ramos said: “Everyone knows what it means to defend those colours. I feel good again, I feel prepared, but ultimately it doesn’t depend on me but on Luis Enrique, whom I respect a lot. I still have a lot of excitement to return and play this World Cup. I hope I can be in Qatar.”
“Last year was tough because I had a lot of problems, as well as having to adapt to another club after almost a lifetime at Real Madrid. Throughout my career I have been injured very little. At no time did I think it was the end. They are challenges that life presents to us, and if there is something that gives meaning to my way of being, it is effort, personality and perseverance.”
“I think I have years left at the highest level, I love this sport. When you dedicate so much to it, in the end you reap the rewards.”
Things are changing for good this season as Sergio Ramos has come back stronger this season and made a solid start to PSG’s season. Now, Gerard Pique has also retired from football, so maybe Spanish manager Luis Enrique would like to have an experienced leader like Ramos in his team. Ramos was part of the Spanish World Cup winning squad in 2010, so he knows what it takes to win on the biggest stage of football.
