N’Golo Kante will miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, due to a hamstring injury. The midfielder has been out for the majority of the season, following the injury sustained in the derby against Tottenham.
He suffered a setback in training recently, which has ruled him out for the tournament in winter. Initial estimates suggest that he will be missing for at least three more months, which is well beyond the World Cup.
N’Golo Kante to miss 2022 World Cup due to hamstring issues
Here is what Graham Potter had to say about N’Golo Kante’s injury status in a press conference:
“‘He’s due to see a consultant at the weekend. It’s a setback, it’s not good news, but I can’t give you anything more at this stage.
“Historically there are things which have happened which is a concern, so we need to get to the bottom of that.
“It’s a setback at this stage of this rehab which is worrying, but all we can do is get the right diagnosis, get the right consultation, and try and help him get back to full fitness and enjoying his football.”
The Chelsea star’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and the club have been reluctant to offer him an extension due to his recent injury record. So, the 31-year-old could be on his way out of the club next summer following his declining fitness.
