Based on the sources, Amazon announced on Monday that it will invest 1 billion euros ($972.1 million) to expand its delivery network in Europe by thousands more unique vans, long-haul trucks, and cargo bikes.

The investment would increase the company’s fleet of electric delivery trucks in Europe from about 3,000 to 10,000 by 2025, according to a statement on the website of the Seattle-based retail behemoth.

Amazon also plans to buy more than 1,500 electric trucks with the investment, up from five in the United Kingdom. The business announced that it would construct hundreds of fast chargers around its European facilities to accommodate such vehicles, which can be fully charged in about two hours.

This was about the company’s commitment to be net carbon by 2040. Regarding the commitment, the company said that the rise in online sales during the coronavirus outbreak caused its carbon emissions to increase by 18% last year.

About the New Delivery Strategy

To test out new delivery strategies, like bike and foot deliveries, Amazon has opened 25 “micro-mobility hubs,” or more centrally situated delivery stations, in crowded European cities. By doubling those hubs by 2025, the company aims to be able to remove additional delivery vans from the road, according to a statement made on Monday.
