Marco Asensio has opened up about his future, his rage at not being played against Mallorca, and a future at Barcelona. The Spaniard spoke to Partidazo de la Cope ahead of the international fixtures, and cleared the air about a lot of issues surrounding him.
An important point to note is that he is out of contract with Real Madrid in 2023, and talks over a renewal have not made much progress so far.
Marco Asensio talks about future in detailed interview
The player revealed that the confidence from Carlo Ancelotti was one of the main reasons he didn’t leave Real Madrid this summer; despite there being offers from other clubs.
“August was a difficult month, strange, but the decision has been made: I am very happy to be at Real Madrid,” Marco Asensio explained. “Ancelotti’s confidence was key. I continue to believe that I can help Real Madrid and I want to continue winning titles with the club. There were options, but at no time did I really think of being able to leave. His confidence was key.”
He also cleared the air surrounding his frustrations in the game against Mallorca:
“There will always be discussions, and people who will think that it is good, that it is bad. In my case I lived it that way, I am a person who shows when I am happy and when I am pissed off,” Asensio said. “In that case, the change didn’t happen. It was a special game for me, because it was against a former team. We were drawing, I thought I could help the team… It didn’t happen because of a teammate’s injury. It was bad luck, but hey, in the end he won and it remains an anecdote. Zero problems with the coach”.
Lastly, he also refused to rule out a future playing for rivals Barcelona:
“As of January I can sign for any club and it is normal for many rumors to come out,” Marco Asensio continued.
“I’ve never thought about a future at Barça, I have not valued it… so, I don’t know!
“Right now, I can’t answer. We’ll see what happens, you never know in the world of football. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
