Sikandar Raza mustered a remarkable ton but in the end, Zimbabwe fell short of 13 runs and India won the match, with a clean sweep of Zimbabwe. Initially, the hosts were in a good position in the match since India could get only a few wickets. Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan smashed a 40 and KL Rahul mustered 30 runs for the team. Evans dismissed Dhawan though the opening batter already had a fifty-run stand. Nyauchi and Ngarava from Zimbabwe dominated the Indian batters before Evans picked the wicket.

Shubhman Gill’s maiden century helped the team in taking India to 289 runs at 50 overs. Gill scored 130 in just 90 balls. Ishan Khattar scored a half-century and Deepak Hooda could score just 1. Ryan Burl scored only 8 runs for his team. Kaia got dismissed for just 6 runs and Takudzwanashe Kaitano got out before him for just 13 runs. Sean Williams had the same fate as well. The skipper of Zimbabwe was pleased with the bowling efforts of Brad Evans as his five-wicket haul restricted India below 300 runs.

The hosts gave a tight fight in the last overs of the first innings. Gill had already mustered 130 runs and Thakur added seven runs more when Evans ended with his maiden ODI five-wicket haul. He got applause from his father Craig Evans from the stands.
