Australian batter David Warner is having an open and unfiltered conversation with Cricket Australia regarding his lifetime ban from holding any captaincy ban. The cricketer is making a comeback in the Big Bash Lague after nine years. He has signed a contract with Sydney Thunder in the BBL.
He was banned from any leadership roles since he was engrossed in the ball-tampering incident in Cape Town in the year 2018. David Warner was the vice president of the Australian team and suffered the most. Apart from him, players like Cameron Bancroft and Steve Smith faced charges too. Many gaming the cricket fraternity desire David Warner to lead his respective team in BBL, if not the national team.
“That hasn’t really been brought to the table, As I’ve said plenty of times off the record, it’s upon the board to reach out to me and open their doors. Then I can sit down and have an honest conversation with them.”- David Warner said
Further, he added that the experience he has can benefit any team and he is a leader without the tag. He also wants to take the young players so that they can learn from him.
“I’ve got the experience, I’m a leader in the side anyway without having a title. That’s what I’m about, giving back, so if they [younger players] can pick my brains in any way, my phone is always there, they have my number, and they can see me when I’m at the practice facilities,”- he said
David Warner is one of the most experienced players in the world and is considered to be one of the most experienced players in Australia. He served as vice-captain while Steve Smith was the captain. He was last seen in the away Test series against Sri Lanka.
When announcing Warner’s signing, Thunder said a decision on the club’s captaincy would “be made closer to the start of the season”
