Football returns to Santiago Bernabeu on September 12

Manchester United have agreed a massive transfer fee with Real Madrid for the signing of Casemiro. United were looking for a defensive midfielder all summer, and have now gone ahead and signed one of the best in the world in that position.

The midfielder will make the move for €86 million including add-ons, and will be signing a long-term contract with his new club. He will be one of the top earners in the Premier League as a result of the switch.

With a replacement not needed immediately, Real Madrid will be using the €86 million towards the maintenance of the Santiago Bernabeu. During the lockdown, the team was playing their home games at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, while their primary stadium was in repair.

The renovation began in 2019, and was expected to be completed this year. But, a combination of the lockdown and the Russia-Ukraine war delayed the process. The capacity of the stadium will remain at 81,044. But, the renovation will allow for better seating and spacing for fans attending games.

The stadium, as a result, will be fully ready from the 2023/24 season.
