Manchester United’s horrific start to the 2022/23 season continues with two straight defeats

Manchester United have had a disastrous start to life in the Premier League under Erik Ten Hag. Their outing against Brentford away at London ended in a 4-0 win, with all the goals being scored in the first half.

In their first game, the team came up short against Brighton at home, losing 2-1. In two games, they have conceded six goals, and have scored only one in response. The numbers tell a grave story, while their display on the pitch has been nowhere close to encouraging either.

David De Gea’s howler opened the scoring for Thomas Frank’s side. Shortly after, United’s attempt to play out of the back was cut short by some excellent pressing from Brentford’s attackers. Mathias Jensen got on the scoresheet after the ball was stolen from Christian Eriksen in his own penalty area.

Ben Mee nodded in the third goal from a cut back corner, while a perfect counter attack goal finished off by Bryan Mbuemo made it four in the 35th minute.

Manchester United showed very little determination and urgency, unlike Brentford. The Bees were a driven force on the pitch, and were able to capitalise on the mistakes, of which there were a lot of.

Erik Ten Hag has a long road ahead of him to get the team performing. His next big test lies against Liverpool at Old Trafford, a fixture that fans will not be very optimistic about given the situation.
