Brentford have reached an agreement with Sampdoria for the transfer of Mikkel Damsgaard. The player joined the Serie A club in 2020, and has scored two goals during his time with the club. This past season, he was restricted to 11 appearances in the league and is now set to join the Bees in the Premier League.

The Dane will be the replacement for Christian Eriksen, who left Brentford after a six-month spell to join Manchester United. Damsgaard plays a similar position, but has some development to do to reach a similar level.

The transfer fee agreed for the 22-year-old is around €15 million including add-ons. Personal terms have also been agreed between the player and Brentford for the move. And now, only the medical assessment remains to be completed.

Once the player has completed the formalities, it will be made official by all parties. The medical has been scheduled for next week, with the announcement expected soon afterwards.

Mikkel Damsgaard made headlines when he scored for Denmark in the Euros against England. The attacking midfielder scored from a free-kick before his side lost 2-1 in extra time.

Brentford have signed Ben Mee, Aaron Hickey, Keane Lewis-Potter and goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha this summer. They will start their Premier League campaign against Leicester City on Sunday.
