Chelsea have completed the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton and Hove Albion for a transfer fee worth £55 million guaranteed and £7 million in add-ons. This makes him the most expensive left-back in the Premier League.
Ben Chilwell held the same record following his transfer from Leicester City, but Chelsea have invested more in the Spaniard now. He has signed a six-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club, until 2028.
Marc Cucurella officially a Chelsea player
Here is what Marc Cucurella said upon his announcement as a new arrival for the West London club: ‘I’m really happy. It’s a big opportunity for me to join one of the best clubs in the world and I’m going to work hard to be happy here and help the team.’
Manchester City were prioritising the Spaniard as their new left-back for the summer to provide backup for Joao Cancelo. But, they refused to pay over £40 million for the player. And only a year after signing for the Seagulls, Cucurella has stepped up to Champions League football with Chelsea.
The Blues are interested in signing Wesley Fofana from Leicester City now. But, the Frenchman renewed his contract with the Foxes very recently. An initial bid worth £60 million has already been rejected, but Chelsea are willing to make a new offer.
Levi Colwill will join Brighton on a loan deal with no option to buy for the 22/23 season, as he continues his development to be integrated into the Premier League.
