Jeremy Lalrinnunga has earned India’s second gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, after Mirabai Chanu’s 49kg title defense at the games only a day ago.

The teenager lifted 300kg, 7kg more than anyone else in the competition to claim his gold medal. He has set a record at the games by lifting 140kg snatch in the under 67kg category. And in clean and jerk, he lifted 160kg to make it a round total of 300kg and defeat all the competitors.
His first two attempts were enough to seal the gold medal. During the 165kg clean and jerk attempt, he fell to the ground with muscle cramps and an elbow injury. The extent of Jeremy Lalrinnunga’s injury remains to be assessed for the time being.
He battled injuries, but walked around with a maturity well beyond his years. The youngster wanted to break his own record, but was unable to do so. And smiled even though he came up short. Now, after a tough battle, he has deservedly become a champion in his own right.
