Nuno Tavares has completed his move to Olympique Marseille, as officially announced on the social media pages of the club. The left-back has been loaned out for the 2022/23 season by Arsenal.
The deal is a straight loan with no option to buy, and the player will return to the Emirates at the end of the season. Marseille have also announced that Tavares will be wearing the number 30 shirt during his time at the club for the coming year.
Nuno Tavares joins Marseille on loan
Negotiations with Arsenal were very difficult for the Ligue 1 side, but they have been able to strike a deal despite competition from other clubs. Atalanta were one of the clubs that had contact with Arsenal for the player, but wanted a buy option included.
Marseille, on the other hand, were content with a temporary deal and have completed it in no time. Nuno Tavares joined Arsenal last summer in a deal from Benfica. He went on to play 28 times for the Gunners, scoring one goal and providing a couple of assists.
With Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney available as choices at left-back, he has been moved on since he won’t be getting enough game time. Mikel Arteta still sees him as a part of the future, and wants him to get enough exposure in the Champions League with Marseille this season and come back better next year.
