Barcelona have seemingly won the race to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla after a late twist in the tale. Chelsea were leading the race to sign the player up until the day before yesterday.
However, Barcelona’s sporting director Mateu Alemany launched a late bid for the central defender. And according to reports in Spain, an agreement is in place between Sevilla and Barcelona for the transfer.
Jules Kounde could be heading to Barcelona
The Frenchman recently had a call with Xavi, who convinced him that he would be the starting centre-back in his line-up. Kounde always preferred the sporting project at Camp Nou, and by the looks of things, has rejected Chelsea’s offer despite agreeing personal terms over a five-year contract.
Chelsea had submitted a £55 million bid for Jules Kounde, which Sevilla didn’t give the green light for. In light of recent events, they were seemingly aware of Barcelona’s interest and wanted them to respond to the offer they received.
The Culers have made a significantly lower offer worth £38 million for the centre-back. But due to Kounde’s personal choice, he will be moving to Catalonia once the formalities have been completed. This transfer saga had a lot of similarities to that of Raphinha, with the Brazilian also snubbing Chelsea’s offer to join the Spanish side.
However, with the arrival of Kounde, Barcelona’s attempt to sign Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea could be a problem.
