Marseille sign Jonathan Clauss amidst interest from 3 important PL sides

Marseille have confirmed the signing of Jonathan Clauss on a long-term deal for a reported fee around £8 million. There was interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Wolves but the Ligue 1 side have won the race for the France international.

Given that he fits into the plans of the new manager, there is a very good chance that he will be making the national team ahead of the World Cup. However, he will need regular playing time and will need to be fit to make it to Qatar.

Jonathan Clauss signs for Marseille

This past season, he helped Lens finish seventh in the table in impressive fashion. The right wing-back scored five goals and provided 11 assists in 37 games in a remarkable return domestically. With Marseille, he will be playing Champions League football as well, since they finished second in the league and qualified.

At 29, Jonathan Clauss is at the peak of his abilities and has been able to showcase his attacking mindset brilliantly for Lens. With Marseille, it will be interesting to see how he fits into the system and whether he can make it to the national team again.

Marseille have also signed Matteo Guendouzi, Luis Suarez, Cengiz Under, Arek Milik, Pau Lopez, Isaak Toure and Chancel Mbeba. As a result, they have an ambitious squad heading into the new season which could lead to positive results.
