Ben Davies is set to leave Liverpool to join Rangers in the coming days. An agreement is in place between the two clubs for a £3 million fee that could go up to £4 million with performance related bonuses.
The centre-back will be the replacement for Calvin Bassey, who is set to join Ajax in a club record sale. The Nigeria international is primarily a left-back, but was deployed in a central position during their Europa League run this past season. So, he could be the replacement for Lisandro Martinez, who has joined Manchester United.
Ben Davies leaves Liverpool without a single appearance
The Preston academy graduate made the move to Liverpool 18 months ago when they were going through an injury crisis. But, he didn’t make a single first team appearance for them during this time.
The player was professional throughout this time, and was also a popular figure in the dressing room. However, he has now decided to move on from the club and has chosen Rangers as his next destination among several other clubs.
Liverpool will also be making a decent profit off of the transfer. They signed Ben Davies for an initial £500,000 which has been made back after he spent the last season on loan at Sheffield United. And now, they are making around six times the original fee through his sale.
