Tottenham Hotspur have signed Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence, and are now preparing an official announcement for him. The transfer has taken a long time, but has finally been agreed as Antonio Conte welcomes another new signing for the summer.
Spurs have agreed a £12.5 million deal which could rise to £20 million including add-ons. He spent the 21/22 season on loan at newly promoted club Nottingham Forest, and will now be part of one of the biggest teams in the Premier League.
Djed Spence to be announced as new Spurs player imminently
“It’s a boost for everyone,” Middlesbrough coach Chris Wilder said, as published by Teeside Live. “There has been far too much talk about it, but these deals just don’t happen overnight. It’s a big number for a player that has not played for us. He had a fabulous season [at Nottingham Forest], everyone knows that.
“Tottenham were the only show in town, so they could hang out, which they have done. We needed to hang out, which we have done. Eventually, a deal has been done. Tottenham will feel they’ve got a very good deal for a young player, we feel we’ve got a great deal to get the money we’ve got for a player who has hardly played for the first-team here.”
After Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence will become the sixth new signing for Conte in the coming days once his arrival is made official.
