Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Sebastian Haller on a permanent transfer. The Ivory Coast international has been signed for €35 million, a joint-highest fee paid for a transfer by the black and yellow club.

The forward will be the replacement for Erling Haaland, who was sold to Manchester City this summer. The player follows a series of notable transfers for the club this season, as they overhaul their squad following the departure of several key players. The 28-year-old has signed a four-year deal with Dortmund until 2026.

Here is what Sebastian Haller said upon being announced as a new Dortmund player: “The stadium is great, but the greatest stadium is nothing without its fans.

“As part of the BVB family, I can’t wait to feel the support of more than 80,000 spectators in the future. We’ll hopefully achieve great things together in the next few years and be able to celebrate together too.”

The forward has previous experience in the Bundesliga, playing two seasons for Eintracht Frankfurt before moving to West Ham. After failing to perform up to standards at the London Stadium, he was signed by Ajax, where he was able to revive and take his goalscoring to a new level. Haller scored 34 goals in 42 appearances last season, and will be expected to do the same at his new club.
