Aston Villa have officially announced the renewal of Ashley Young’s contract for another season. The veteran’s new deal will run until the end of the 22/23 season now, and the news comes only five days before his 37th birthday.
Despite his age, he has been able to put in a solid shift during his time at Villa Park. In 25 appearances in his first season at the club, he has played in both full-back positions, and has also been deployed in midfield. After Steven Gerrard took over around the middle of the season, Villa were able to finish 14th in the table.

The player joined the Premier League side from Inter Milan, and made 25 appearances during the 21/22 campaign. Here is what he had to say about renewing his deal for a further season:
“It was the ambition of the Club, the manager, the staff and the players as well.
“I got to know the staff and the players really well last season, and I wasn’t ready to go into retirement just yet.
“When I spoke to the manager towards the end of the season, he told me what he thought about me and that he wanted me to stay. He was a massive factor.”
Ashley Young featured most prominently for Manchester United, winning several trophies over the years and also helped Inter Milan win the Scudetto during his time there.
