As the third day comes to a close, team India appear to be in a promising position here on. Cheteshwar Pujara’s fifty propelled them into acquiring a 257-run lead over England on Day 3 of the ongoing fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Pujara reached fifty during the day’s final over. At 30 runs, Rishabh Pant continued to be undefeated in the meanwhile. Before Ben Stokes’ short-pitched delivery earned him the boot, Virat Kohli had also made a solid start.

In the first innings of the current fifth Test in Birmingham at Edgbaston, India bowled out England for 284, gaining a commanding 132-run lead as Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah each claimed four wickets.

On Sunday, Jonny Bairstow was removed by Mohammed Shami after 106 runs, and Stuart Broad was then struck out by Siraj. In the current fifth and final Test match between England and India at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Bairstow had previously assisted England in recovering from a hazardous condition of 83/5.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s half century helped India gain a commanding lead

Prior to putting up a 92-run stand for the seventh wicket with Sam Billings, he and Ben Stokes had stitched together a 66-run partnership for the sixth wicket. The day before, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj each took a wicket to further humiliate the hosts. Jasprit Bumrah had delivered numbers of 3/35 to keep England under pressure.

After a dominant three-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah on the second day, England collapsed to 84 for five in 27 overs. Joe Root was dismissed by Siraj at 31 runs, while Jack Leach was returned to the pavilion by Mohammed Shami with no runs. At first, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja each scored a century to help India compile an impressive total of 416 runs.
