Among the different subgenres of horror, probably the most difficult to execute is a horror-comedy, even as combining the two often turns out to be a fascinating experience for the audience. While the most recent example of the same is Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which has succeeded in raking in the moolah at the Box Office, there are a few other extremely entertaining masterpieces in the OTT world that can help you make the most of the weekend.

To let you skip the hassle of scrambling through different apps, we have compiled a list of the most entertaining horror-comedies currently available across different leading platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix, among others. Check it out:

Chaipatti

A roughly 12-minute-long short film, Chaipatti on Disney+ Hotstar and MX Player is packed with just the right dose of spookiness and amusement. The crisp story about three friends who sit one night to invite ghosts gives the audience edge-of-the-seat moments while tickling the funny bone.

The trio – played by Sudhanshu Rai – who is also the Director of the short film, Shobhit Sujay and Abhishek Sonpaliya – use a ‘Bhoot Bulaane Waali Kitaab’ which enshrines the mantras and rituals to reach out to the ghosts. Chaipatti has been widely appreciated by the audience as well as the critics for its unique concept and apt performances.

Hubie Halloween

A delicate young lad, who is usually the subject of jokes in the town, is out to save the people of Salem in Massachesettes from a kidnapper. The young man named Hubie Dubois, played brilliantly by Adam Sandler, meets a stranger a day before Halloween and what follows the next day is a complete roller coaster ride.

The horror comedy film directed by Steven Brill has won accolades all around and is currently streaming on Netflix. The other cast includes Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Rob Schneider and Karan Brar, among others.

Golmaal Again

Helmed by Rohit Shetty, Golmaal Again is an often underrated horror-comedy out of Bollywood. The film starred stalwarts such as Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tabu, Shreyas Talpade, Prakash Raj, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, and Mukesh Tiwari, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tusshar Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, is often on the streaming list of kids as well as grownups.

While the film has scenes that make you burst into laughter, there are moments that send chills down the spine, but in a funny way. It is surely a gem in the Golmaal franchise and streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Aapke kamre mein koi rehta hai

Four bachelors come into a home that is thought to have strong powers. The web series shows the protagonists following a string of poor life choices that left them with nothing except a car. On the first night itself in the new house, one of the pals passes away, only to later reappear as a ghost.

The intriguing star cast, which includes Sumeet Vyas, Naveen Kasturia, Amol Parashar, Ashish Verma and Swara Bhaskar, is a highlight of the horror-comedy directed by Gaurav Sinha. Aapke kamre mein koi rehta hai is streaming on MX Player.

Stree

Stree, a Bollywood classic in the horror-comedy genre, has a long list of notable performers, including Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee.

The story of a woman who needs to be reminded to visit the next day every time she shows up in the movie struck all the right notes and received a resoundingly positive response. The film is a must-watch because of Amar Kaushik’s excellent direction, acting, and dialogue. The film is streaming on Netflix.
