Giorgio Chiellini has signed with MLS club LAFC after leaving Juventus as a free agent. The iconic centre-back revealed his decision in a video titled “The Next Chapter” on his social media profiles.

He played his last game with the Italy national team at Wembley Stadium, in a losing effort against Argentina in the Finalissima. That was also the site of the greatest victory of his national team career, as he captained Italy to their first European Championship win in over half a century.

“I can move to a growing league where I can also grow myself,” he told Radio Anch’io Sport. The veteran has signed an 18-year contract with LAFC and will be staying with them until the end of the 2023 season.

Giorgio Chiellini has also commented on his future beyond the pitch: “I would like to get involved with everything that happens off the pitch, but it’s going to take hard work, patience and sacrifice,” he said.

He will not be a Designated Player, but will instead be signed using the Target Allocation Money that is in the share of the club. After spending 18 years in Turin, he will finally be leaving the Bianconeri, and it will be quite strange to see the iconic centre-back in a shirt that isn’t striped black and white, in what is seemingly the final chapter of his career.
