Saul Niguez has returned to Atletico Madrid following his loan spell at Chelsea. The West London club decided against activating the €35 million buy option in his contract, and he has now returned to Spain now that the season has ended.
He will decide his future later this summer after receiving several contract proposals from clubs. The player posted a lengthy message onto his social media, thanking the fans and the club for their support and officially leaving Stamford Bridge.

“I would like to tell you how I felt during this adventure. Things didn’t start well at all,” the Spain international wrote on social media.
“After a long time at home, changing everything wasn’t easy.”
The initial part of the season saw him struggle in the Premier League. He was criticised strongly for his performances, which eventually improved. Saul was occasionally deployed at left-back to cover for Marcos Alonso, following the injury to Ben Chilwell.
But, he never really broke into the first team under Thomas Tuchel.
“Little by little things got better. Everything in life serves to improve and learn, and that’s what I take from this adventure,” Saul said.
“I’d like to thank the club for trying to take care of every detail to make me feel at home.
“But above all, I wanted to thank my team-mates. They have been fundamental so that I wouldn’t fall apart. They helped me to continue supporting the team and live a calm and positive day to day.”
