Diablo Immortal has had a difficult time since the beginning. Since its first announcement, Diablo Immortal has been dogged by controversy, with many suspecting it of being an out-of-season April Fool’s joke.
Over time, the view of Diablo Immortal shifted slightly in the opposite direction, especially after Blizzard revealed that Diablo 4 would be the next main series Diablo game.
Diablo Immortal is available on mobile devices, and fans are tearing it apart because of the game’s excessive microtransactions
Diablo Immortal appears to be fairly enjoyable to play and performs well as a mobile version of Diablo, although the game’s microtransactions, particularly those related to endgame levelling and PvP content, have gotten mixed reviews. Diablo Immortal has been accused of being a pay-to-win game, with some estimates claiming that completely upgrading one’s character would cost upwards of $100,000.
The microtransactions in Diablo Immortal have received a lot of backlash from the community. Users are currently reviewing bombing Diablo Immortal on Metacritic, decreasing its user score to one of the lowest conceivable on the review aggregation platform.
In terms of professional reviews, Diablo Immortal currently has a Metacritic score of 79, while user reviews have a score of 0.6. This places it among the lowest-rated games of all time in terms of user ratings, and with 1,631 evaluations submitted as of this writing, it’s unlikely to change.
The only option to improve Diablo Immortal’s public impression appears to be to fully overhaul the game’s economy and microtransactions, but it’s unclear whether Blizzard is willing to devote the time and resources necessary to do so.
