Luis Suarez will be leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of the ongoing season, as confirmed by the club. The Uruguayan played his last home game for the Rojiblancos at the Wanda Metropolitano over the weekend. He made the starting lineup in their 1-1 draw against Sevilla, and was given an emotional farewell by the fans.
“At the end of the game, the Wanda Metropolitano will pay tribute to Luis Suárez and Héctor Herrera, who are saying goodbye to the Red & White family today,” the club posted on their official social media accounts, confirming the end of their association.
Luis Suarez to leave Atletico Madrid
Atletico signed Suarez on a free transfer from Barcelona after he was deemed ‘too old’ for the team over the summer. Upon his arrival, the striker managed to score 21 goals in La Liga and fire his new team to the La Liga title.
While his first season under Diego Simeone was quite impressive, Suarez was unable to replicate his form this year. But, he has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in the league.
The player is not considering any proposals from MLS clubs yet. His priority is to stay in Europe and compete at the highest level, which includes potentially playing in the Champions League.
It is yet unclear which is the preferred club for Suarez but he will have a number of options to choose from when his deal with Atletico runs out in one month.
