Samsung Electronics has released a new white paper that lays out its plans for the next-generation standard of networking, 6G. The South Korean company has released a paper titled “6G Spectrum: Expanding the Frontier,” here’s what it says:

Samsung is committed to taking the lead on 6G development:

Samsung’s Executive VP and Head of the Advanced Communications Research Center Sunghyun Choi, “We have started on our journey long ago to understand, develop and standardize the 6G communications technology. We are committed to taking the lead and sharing our findings to spread our vision to bring the next hyper-connected experience to every corner of life.”

Samsung in other words has claimed that it has already begun the groundwork for bringing the next-gen standard into the market.

Samsung’s 6G technology will be 50 times faster than the existing 5G technology

In addition to this, 6G would need a spectrum with ultra-wideband bandwidth that ranges from “hundreds of MHz to tens of GHz.” This will allow for high-fidelity mobile holograms and provide a genuinely immersive extended reality (XR). The company has also begun to focus on improving the coverage of the next-gen communications standard.

For this Samsung is considering all available bands for 6G from a low band under 1GHz to mid-band in the 1 to 24GHz range and even higher bands ranging from 24GHz to 300GHz.

In terms of what improvements 6G could bring, Samsung claims that the speeds from 6G may hit up to 1TB which is 50 times faster than the existing 20GBPS on 5G networks. During the tests back in June 2021, the company demonstrated a 6GBPS data rate at a 15 meters distance indoors.

At a 30 meters distance indoors, the network managed to have a data rate of 12GBPS. Even at a distance of 120 meters, the data rate reached 2.3GBPS. Samsung intends to share more details with respect to the findings of 6G research in the future as well.
