Microsoft and Samsung are reportedly collaborating on an Xbox Smart TV streaming app

According to GamesBeat, Microsoft plans to expand its Xbox Everywhere strategy by releasing a cloud-gaming streaming gadget and a Samsung smart TV app over the next 12 months.

Microsoft and Samsung

Following up on its announcement on Thursday that Fortnite would be accessible for free via Xbox Cloud Gaming, it appears Microsoft is making progress toward allowing gamers to stream Xbox games straight to their televisions.

Of course, the narrative behind Microsoft Gaming and these new services is that they’ve been teased for the past two years as being under production and “coming soon.” This story appears to be more of the same, yet it can still be considered excellent news for those waiting for the offerings to be released.

As per GamesBeat, the Xbox cloud-gaming streaming service “would likely look like an Amazon Fire Stick or even a small, Roku-Esque puck,” and will give users access to movie and TV services as well as a game library via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

GamesBeat reported that Microsoft is teaming up with its Samsung partners to develop the Xbox game-streaming smart TV app.

About the Xbox Everywhere Initiative

Finally, considering the momentum that Microsoft appears to be aiming to build on with its Xbox Everywhere push, this all makes sense.

The Xbox Everywhere initiative’s stated mission statement is as follows: “It’s our mission at Xbox to bring the joy and community to gaming by putting players at the center of everything we do,” Xbox Cloud Gaming vice president and head of product Catherine Gluckstein said in their May 5 blog post. “We want to empower everyone around the world to play the games they want, with the people they want, on the devices they already own. We call this Xbox Everywhere.”
