Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed the signing of Nico Schlotterbeck from Freiburg. The player completed his medical for the transfer today, and has signed a contract with the Black and Yellow club until June 2027.
Freiburg will be receiving €20 million upfront, plus €5 million in add-ons for the transfer of the centre-back. He will be earning a salary worth €4.5 million per season as part of his deal with Dortmund.
Nico Schlotterbeck revealed as new Dortmund player
“After consultation with all parties involved, I have today decided to announce my move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022. In doing so, I want to provide clarity for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and myself personally,” said Nico Schlotterbeck, adding:
“It is important for me to be able to fully concentrate on the remaining three games in the season run-in with SC Freiburg, which we hope will be successful. After that, I’m looking forward to the new responsibilities with Borussia Dortmund.”
Freiburg are battling to secure a place in next year’s Champions League after a remarkable season. They are also in the finals of the DFB Pokal against RB Leipzig, and will be hoping to finish the year with a trophy.
As his replacement, Freiburg are working to complete the signing of Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract. Dortmund, on the other hand, are preparing to conclude the transfer of Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg.
