Intel Comet Lake-S desktop processors are expected to be launched on April 30 and with days more leaks are coming out. After spotting out the specs of these CPUs in the last leak, we now have some vital pricing info thanks to @momomo_us.
The Canadian retailer DirectDial has posted the prices for the Comet Lake-S chips, the Intel Core i9-10900, i7-10700K, and i7-10700. The processors are listed at CAD$679 (US$487), CAD$585 (US$419), and CAD$506 (US$363), respectively.
These CPUs are very competitively priced compared to the Coffee Lake generation. DirectDial has priced the Intel Core i9-9900 at CAD$678 (US$486), the i7-9700K at CAD$578 (US$414), and the i7-9700 priced at CAD$502 (US$360).
The prices of the new CPUs compared to last gen looks really attractive and these new Comet Lake-S CPUs are apparently “incoming” to stock on June 17.
Now when compared to the AMD counterparts from the same retailer, the Ryzen 9 3900X costs CAD$747 (US$535). The nearest competitor is the Core i9-9900 with 10 cores and 20 threads whereas the AMD Matisse chip has 12 cores and 24 threads.
Also, the AMD chips have cheaper motherboard compatibility, even though the Ryzen CPU does have a higher TDP (105 W vs. 65 W) but it has the 7nm advantage that helps it to draw lower power at intense tasks.
The Ryzen 9 3900X is available for as low as US$449.99 so even if the Intel CPU has better single-core frequency, the AMD CPU is much more worth the money spend.
