According to some new reports Google has partnered with Samsung in a project of making a custom Exynos chipset for them (Google). It is said that Google had explored several alternative vendors then after checking and comparing everything the company has decided to go with the Exynos chipset, which also has gained popularity in the market.
The custom Exynos chip will feature two Cortex-A78, two A76, and four A55 cores. The GPU will be a Mali MP20 based on a new architecture from ARM, code-named Borr. The A78 and Borr cores are yet to be officially announced. The Cortex-A78 will be very powerful even more than A77. The chip will reportedly be built on Samsung’s 5nm EUV node. Even though we have talked about a 3nm chip that Samsung was preparing to make and got delayed due to COVID-19 may also be linked with this project.
The “custom chip is said to feature Google’s Visual Core ISP and NPU on board (replacing Samsung’s designs)” according to GSMarena. If this happens all the Google photos that took time to render and processing, YouTube videos that need transcribing, language translation from phones and the Chrome browser and even in some other works as well, it will be able to do everything in a more reduced time.
Some reports also claim that even Facebook can make use of the Exynos chipsets in their upcoming Oculus AR and VR products.
