Intel Core i9-13900K Could Feature Clock Speeds Up To 5.8 GHz

The Core i9-13900K, Intel’s flagship Raptor Lake Desktop CPU, aims to extend its clock speed advantage to the next level. The 13th Generation Raptor Lake Desktop CPUs from Intel are projected to be a development of the 12th Generation Alder Lake processors.

Both use a hybrid core architecture, with the former using x86 Golden Cove cores and the latter using Raptor Cove cores. Both Alder Lake and Raptor Lake have Intel’s Gracemont Atom cores, known as E-Cores, while Raptor Lake will raise the total number of E-Cores from 8 to 16. The core count will increase to 24 cores and 32 threads, up from 16 cores and 24 threads on the flagship Core i9-12900K.

Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake series is projected to see a significant boost in cache size. As part of its new ‘Game Cache,’ the flagship Core i9-13900K is rumoured to include up to 68 MB of cache. Last year, @OneRaichu originated the rumour, and since then, several other tech leakers and insiders have confirmed it.

Now, @OneRaichu has a new rumour about Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake lineup, and it’s about the core clock. Intel’s P-core rates are projected to be increased by up to 300 MHz, according to the rumour. The Core i9-12900KS, which has a maximum clock speed of 5.5 GHz, is currently Intel’s fastest CPU in production. Intel offering the Core i9-13900K 200-300 MHz frequency increase means the blue team is hoping to break the 5.5 GHz clock limit on a market chip and shoot for 5.7-5.8 GHz.

Intel’s Core i9-13900K might have a turbo rating close to 300W

With a 300 MHz higher boost clock, the Core i9-12900KS already witnessed a 19W boost. Another 200-300 MHz boost could result in an extra 20-30W, bringing the maximum turbo power rating of Intel’s Core i9-13900K close to 300 Watts (vs 260W for i9-12900KS). The CPU is also said to have improved overclocking capabilities.

While this may not be the case for the Raptor Lake series, Dr Ian Cutress of TechTech Potato just tweeted that the next-generation Intel Atom cores will have clock speeds of above 4.5 GHz. This is true for Meteor Lake and future chips that use Atom cores from the following generation. Intel’s Gracemont Atom cores now top out at 3.90 GHz, implying a minimum of a 15% boost.
