Andreas Christensen has reached a verbal agreement to join Barcelona in the summer. The Chelsea defender is out of contract when the season is over, and won’t be extending with the London club. He has been in talks with Barcelona since January, and is expected to complete the move soon.
Having graduated from Chelsea’s academy, Christensen has emerged as a key centre-back under Thomas Tuchel. However, he is now seeking a new challenge after failing to reach an agreement with the board about a contract renewal.
Andreas Christensen set to move to Barcelona
The Blaugrana are working on the final details to secure the arrival of the player in the summer. He is expected to sign a five-year contract with the club, and will seemingly be their first signing for the summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were also in the race to sign the player, but both their proposals have been turned down for a move to Spain. Andreas Christensen won’t be moving to any other Premier League clubs either, out of respect for Chelsea.
Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to follow the Danish international to Camp Nou in the summer. The Chelsea skipper is out of a contract as well, and has been contacted by Barcelona for a free transfer. Alongside him, the likes of Franck Kessie and Noussair Mazraoui have also been linked with a move to Spain when the season is over.
