ATK Mohun Bagan climbed back to second spot after defeating Chennaiyin FC 1-0 in the ISL. Here are the three talking points from the match.
Roy Krishna’s perfect return to the line-up
The Fijian forward had been ruled out of the starting line-up for a long time, with David Williams taking his place in the team. He finally returned to the starting line-up under Juan Ferrando in the game against Chennaiyin, and reminded the league what he is all about.
The striker netted the only goal of the game in first half stoppage time, shooting a bullet from a tight angle to beat the keeper.
Semi-final spot sealed for ATK Mohun Bagan
Roy Krishna’s goal helped the Mariners win the game, and earn three vital points in the league. They are now level on points with table toppers Jamshedpur FC, but have also played an extra game. So, unless Jamshedpur slip up in any of their next games, it will be difficult for ATK Mohun Bagan to climb up to the top of the table. However, they have a semi-final spot confirmed for this season.
Chennaiyin’s season ends mid-table
Chennaiyin FC had a real chance to make it to the semifinals during the midway stage of the season. But, failure to be consistent with their performances ended up ruling out their opportunities. They earned 20 points from 20 games, and will be hoping to come back stronger next season, and return to the knockout stages.
