With Neymar now in his 30s, he will be more aware of the demands on the game as he ages, and the prospect of hanging up his boots looms large on the horizon as he plans the next stages of his separate careers. James Rodriguez has also been confirmed.

Both players utilized the Twitch site over the weekend to express significant interest in playing in Major League Soccer at some point in the future, even though both are presently playing for PSG in France and Al-Rayyan in Qatar.

Neymar’s Motivations for MLS

Neymar was a guest on the ‘Fenomenos’ podcast (broadcast on Twitch) and when asked about his reasons for wanting to play in Major League Soccer at some point, he told Ronaldo Nazario, “first of all, their season is shorter, so I would have three months off (laughs). I would get to play for many more years”.

Following his spell in Spain’s LaLiga and a subsequent move to PSG, where he is under contract until mid-2025, the Brazilian striker is currently in his ninth season in Europe. A move to the United States, Mexico, or Canada one year before the World Cup may be a very serious possibility for Neymar.

James eyes on MLS for the future

The Colombian midfielder had a Q&A session on his Twitch channel (James1222), where he answered several questions about his football career.

The former Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Everton midfielder were asked about his current situation. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, I live day by day. At least I’m playing, I’m competing, I’m doing things right, I’m scoring goals and creating assists.”

He also added: “Physically I’m fine, why not go back to Europe, I have the conditions for that, I’m getting into a rhythm. A good option would be the United States (MLS), which I like a lot, but that’s still a long way off”
