Barcelona earned a 4-2 win against Atletico Madrid, after coming back from 1-0 down. Adama Traore, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Daniel Wass and Reinildo made their debuts in the game.
With their win against the Rojiblancos, Barcelona are now in the top four once again. They are two points clear of Atletico Madrid, and seem to be back in control of their league season.
Barcelona win big vs Atletico to break into top four
Yannick Carrasco’s opener for the defending champions was cancelled out within minutes by Jordi Alba, who scored a volley from the left side.
They took the lead quickly afterwards, courtesy of Gavi, who headed the ball past Jan Oblak. Adama Traore provided his first assist for Barcelona in his second debut for the goal that took them in front. Ronald Araujo would then join the party to make it three right before halftime from a free kick situation.
Dani Alves would make it four for the home team, before being sent off. Prior to the dismissal of the Brazilian, Luis Suarez managed to pull one back against his former team. Tensions rose between the two teams later, and a Barcelona coaching staff was shown a red card for a violent reaction as well.
But ultimately, Xavi’s men got the better of the defending La Liga champions and have now displaced them from a spot in the top four. If Barcelona can keep up the free-flowing form that they showed against Atletico today, then they can be in for a guaranteed Champions League spot at the end of the season.
