Barcelona have been in a very difficult financial position this year, with their reduced wage cap of €98 million only. This was due to the massive amount of losses that the club sustained under their former president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Instead of spreading the losses out over the next few seasons, Joan Laporta, the current Barcelona president, has decided to put the weight of all the losses into this season. As a result, the expected wage cap in the summer is set to be a massive €400 million.
Barcelona looking at a very ambitious summer project
The Blaugrana are currently looking at a number of free agent signings in the summer, due to the availability of star talent for no transfer fee, and the long-term project that they have in place.
Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie and Niklas Sule are four of the top names linked with a switch to Barcelona for free in the summer. They are all going to be out of contract when the season is over in June, and will be able to join for no transfer fee paid to their clubs.
Barcelona will be able to boost up their finances with a record sponsorship from streaming giants Spotify, which is expected to be in the €100 million region. The financial boost will also allow them to go all-in for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland in the summer.
With an increased wage cap, and budget, there is hope that we will see a revived Barcelona team competing for silverware next year.
