Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary at Manchester United could drop to under £300,000 if they fail to achieve a top-four finish by the end of the season. Failure to secure Champions League football would also impact the finances of the club as well.
Ronaldo is currently Manchester United’s highest-paid player, with a salary worth £385,000 per week. David De Gea is next behind him, with a salary worth £375,000 per week. But, Ronaldo’s earnings are dependent on United’s standing when the season wraps up.
Here’s how the 36-year-old’s salary could be affected next year.
Cristiano Ronaldo might have to take pay cut next year
The Portuguese star is Manchester United’s highest goalscorer this season, having netted 14 goals in 23 games since his return to Old Trafford. Since making a dramatic return, he has turned saviour for the Red Devils on several occasions.
Back at Juventus, he was earning a salary worth £500,000 per week, and he had to accept a pay cut for a move to Manchester United. And as things stand, he could be earning almost he did in Turin by the time the season ends.
Manchester United will have to find their way back to winning in the Premier League to avoid a big financial blow. They are still competing in the Champions League and EFL Cup this season. But, the Premier League will be key for them in order to secure top tier European football next year.
