Odisha FC overcame the defending champions Mumbai City FC by a 4-2 scoreline in the ISL. They took all three points against the league leaders after completing an inspiring comeback in the second half. Here are the three key talking points from the game.
Jerry leads comeback for Odisha FC
Jerry Mawihmingthanga scored a second half brace in seven minutes to give his team the lead. He would also assist the final goal of the night for Jonathas, to bury the game and secure the three points.
The 24-year-old was named the Hero of the Match for his inspiring second half display that helped Odisha fight back against their opponents.
Mumbai City FC have lost their defensive edge
During the initial stage of the season, Mumbai City FC were one of the best defensive sides in the division. But, that no longer seems to be the case. They have conceded 2 or more goals in four of their last five games, and have conceded 17 overall.
Jerry was unmarked on a number of occasions which allowed him to turn the game on its head for his team. While Mumbai have the best attack in the league, they don’t have the best defense anymore.
Title race turns red-hot
Mumbai City had to turn away empty handed against Odisha FC, which means that their spot at the top of the table is under threat. Hyderabad FC and ATK Mohun Bagan face off against each other on January 5, and any result will see the Islanders dethroned from first place.
