Owners of the Pixel 6 Pro now have yet another reason to try Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud game streaming service. According to a recently updated support page spotted by XDA Developers, the service can now stream games at 120 frames per second on Google’s latest flagship smartphone. It’s unclear when the update went live, but it should make games feel smoother and more responsive than they did when they were capped at 60 frames per second.

As a result, Google’s phone is the first non-Samsung phone to handle 120 frames per second. The capability was previously accessible for Samsung’s S21 series, as well as the S20 FE and Note 20 phones, according to Nvidia’s help website. To stream games at this higher framerate, you’ll need to upgrade to GeForce Now’s top-tier RTX 3080 tier, which costs $99.99 for six months of service. That’s not exactly cheap, but it’s still less expensive than tracking down one of the graphics cards on your own, and there’s no waiting to join up as of last week.

On Android, GeForce Now can only stream in 1080p, which is lower than the native resolution of the Pixel 6 Pro’s 1440p display. If you want to broadcast 1440p at 120 frames per second, you’ll need a PC or Mac, while 4K 60 frames per second HDR streaming requires an Nvidia Shield TV. Nvidia advises connecting to a 5GHz wireless router for 1080p streaming, which requires 25mbps of bandwidth.

It’s a nice addition to Nvidia’s game streaming service, which lets you play some (but not all) of your existing Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect / Uplay games. We’ve already been blown away by what it’s capable of, and new features like this don’t hurt. Support for 4K on non-Nvidia hardware should be coming soon.

If you have a GeForce Now RTX 3080 subscription and a Pixel 6 Pro, you can manually enable the higher framerate in the GeForce Now app’s Stream quality menu.
