Inter Milan are all set to complete the signing of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana in the upcoming weeks. The player will be signing his contract with the Serie A champions in the first few days of January when the winter transfer window opens.
Onana will be leaving Ajax as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season. Barcelona were rumoured to be interested in signing him, but have ultimately lost out to Inter. Interestingly, he came through the Barcelona academy as a youngster before moving to the Netherlands in 2015.
He has since been at Ajax, and has made a name for himself as a decent shotstopper.
Andre Onana’s brief history on the pitch
The Cameroonian was not allowed to play until very recently due to a doping issue. He has been with Ajax since 2015, and has helped them win two Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups.
Andre Onana was also a key part of the Ajax squad that progressed to the semifinals of the Champions League in the 18/19 season. They had a miraculous campaign that year, and looked set to go to the finals. But, they ended up losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the penultimate stage of the competition.
The 25-year-old has made 206 appearances for Ajax and has kept 84 clean sheets. He is expected to be the heir to Samir Handanovic at Inter Milan, who is well into his 30s. Inter Milan will be happy with the fact that they are getting such a talented goalkeeper on a free transfer in the summer.
