Mediatek records record-breaking revenue going up from $8 billion to $17 billion from 2019-2020

MediaTek has been making leaps and bounds in developing chips for devices other than smartphones, recently announcing its Kompanio Series of processors for Chromebooks and Pentatonic 2000 chip for high-end 8K 120Hz TVs.

While most of its revenue continues to come from SoC’s for smartphones, it is clear that the Taiwanese chipmaker is keen on undercutting competition through innovation and being first in offering cutting-edge technologies.

Company CEO Cai Lixing recently revealed that MediaTek will be launching the first 5G mmWsave (millimeter-wave) mobile SoC next year. It will be paired with a Wi-Fi 7 solution and is all set to be launched early next year. Cai Lixing hopes this will allow the company to achieve double-digit revenue growth between 10% to 20%, which is lower than their 2021 growth but is still pretty fair.

Lixing further pointed out that MediaTek has received major capacity support in 2022 from its foundries, back-end packaging, and substrate partners, and the shipment situation will be stable next year.

“The post-epidemic era has added many variables to global economic development, and MediaTek will also face many more technical challenges, including increasingly complex design architectures and more advanced 3nm and 2nm chip manufacturing nodes,” he said.

MediaTek’s financial report recently revealed consolidated revenue for the 3rd quarter of 2021 at $131,074 million, up 4.3% from the previous quarter and 34.7% year-on-year.

Sales of mobile phone chips rose by over 110% year on year with a revenue contribution rate of 57%. Sales of non-mobile products including power management ICs and network chips also increased by more than 30%.

CEO Cai Lixing also revealed that MediaTek has become one of the leading companies in the field of wireless communication chips and is excelling in the field of Wi-Fi 6/6E as well.
