Here’s the first gameplay footage for Stargate: Timekeepers

Slitherine Games has released the first gameplay footage for Stargate: Timekeepers, which was first announced in May. CreativeForge’s Timekeepers is a real-time tactics game, and the newly released video features footage from Mission 2: “The Resistance.” Although the video is only three minutes long, it should give Stargate fans an idea of what to expect from the campaign. As players work to defeat the Goa’uld’s plans, the game appears to place a strong emphasis on stealth elements. It’s shaping up to be a fresh take on the Stargate franchise.

The video has received a mixed response online so far. Stargate: Timekeepers’ gameplay is designed to be comparable to Desperados III and Shadow Tactics. Unfortunately, it appears that many Stargate enthusiasts are dissatisfied with the genre decision. Many fans appear to think that an XCOM-style game would have been a better fit for the franchise. It was not SlitherineGames and CreativeForge’s intention, but this approach may win fans over once Timekeepers is released. For the time being, we’ll simply have to wait and see what happens.

Stargate: Timekeepers

Another noteworthy decision is that Stargate: Timekeepers takes place near the end of Season 7, notably during the Battle of Antarctica, rather than at the end of Stargate SG-1. The game has a completely new story, but it’s being made in conjunction with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), so Timekeepers should deliver an experience that’s true to the franchise. Commander Eva McCain and her team will try to assist SG-1 in its battle with Anubis’ fleet in the game. Naturally, this team will be exploring new areas spanning time and space in the game.

Stargate: Timekeepers is set to release on PC sometime in 2022
