Chelsea are planning a transfer for Leicester City youngster Wesley Fofana in the summer. Thomas Tuchel reportedly has his eyes set on the France U-21 international as the replacement for Antonio Rudiger.

The German centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and has held talks with Real Madrid about a potential move. The Spanish giants are willing to offer the player the salary he wants, and if Chelsea don’t offer the player the same, he will be able to walk out for free.

Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, Rudiger has been reborn as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League. He was a vital part of the defence that helped them win the Champions League title at the end of the previous season, alongside Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.

The trio of defenders have yet to agree a new deal with the London club, and could all leave as free agents.

What’s the transfer situation of Wesley Fofana ?

Fofana, being 20 years old, could be one of the defenders to lead the Chelsea backline into the upcoming years. He will be joined alongside Trevoh Chalobah, who is having a breakout season with the Blues.

But, with his contract running until 2025, Leicester City will not be willing to let go of their prized asset for anything less than a huge fee. As a result, Chelsea are also on the lookout to sign Sevilla defender Joules Kounde, after the move to Stamford Bridge collapsed in the summer.
