Slovenian team Mura defeated Tottenham Hotspur in a shocking 2-1 scoreline in the Europa Conference League. Antonio Conte rotated the squad heavily for the midweek fixture, and the key players were tested for the Premier League in the weekend.
Mura took the lead ten minutes into the game, as Tommy Morvat opened the scoring for the home team. Things turned from bad to worse for the English club before the break, as Ryan Sessegnon was sent off for a lunging challenge.
The other side of the break saw Tottenham equalise with their opponents courtesy of Harry Kane. Antonio Conte decided to hedge his bets and play attacking football in search of a win, throwing on Son in the process. However, they were exposed at the back and this resulted in Mura taking the lead again with the last kick of the ball.
“This is a bad loss for us. The performance was poor. We know we have a lot of work ahead of us. This is a difficult moment for us.
“We need patience to improve, to be good again. We were poor not only technically and tactically but also mentally. It will take time to bring Tottenham back.”
The Spurs head coach added: “After three weeks I am starting to understand the situation. It is not simple. At this moment the level at Tottenham is not so high.”
Tottenham need to earn a result against Rennes in the final game of the group stages to ensure qualification to the next round of the Conference League.
