Erling Haaland has reportedly told his personal team that he is leaning towards a move to Real Madrid next summer. The Norwegian forward has a €75 million release clause in his contract that will only come into play in 2022.
The catch is that any club interested in him will have to pay that fee in one go. As a result, only Europe’s top clubs are in contention for his signature. Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and City are all in the race to sign the player.
But a move to the Spanish capital is the one that the striker seems to be inching more towards. A final decision has not yet been made, and it could change by the time the summer transfer window of 2022 comes around.
Mino Raiola has stated that Haaland has a house in Madrid, but it is unlikely that having a residence there would mean anything when it comes to the transfer. The recruitment of Kylian Mbappe next summer will also make it a bit of a problem to sign both players in the same window.
Erling Haaland currently has a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2024, and has emerged as the most important player in the lineup. The black and yellow club were recently eliminated from the group stages of the Champions League, which means that they will have to play in the Europa League for the remainder of the season.
A talent of Haaland’s level needs to be competing at the highest level, and as a result, a move to Santiago Bernabeu seems to be the way to go for the forward.
