Barcelona have reached a mutual agreement with technical secretary Ramon Planes to terminate his deal with the club. The 54-year-old asked to leave the club, and Barcelona have allowed the technical secretary to go his own way.
Originally, he was the assistant technical secretary, having joined from Getafe in 2018.
Planes stepped up following the dismissal of Eric Abidal in 2020 and took up the lead role at Camp Nou.
Only two weeks after the arrival of Xavi at the club, Joan Laporta has decided to change the hierarchy at the club. He and Xavi plan to build a new set of technical leaders for the club to help it operate better.
Barcelona confirmed their decision to let Planes go in an official statement:
“FC Barcelona and Ramon Planes have reached an agreement to terminate the contract that bound both parties until 30 June 2022, at the request of the man who had until now been the club’s technical secretary.
“The club wishes to publicly express its gratitude to Ramon Planes for his commitment, professionalism and contributions throughout these last two years, and wishes him the best of luck and every success in the future.”
Ramon Planes was responsible for bringing in players like Ronald Araujo and Pedri, who have both made a name for themselves in the first team.
He has reportedly been contacted by Newcastle United, and could be recruited by the Premier League outfit, who are also undergoing a huge transition phase at the moment.
