Newcastle United are considering Eddie Howe as a potential candidate to replace Steve Bruce. The Magpies were recently taken over by the Saudi Arabia PIF. And with the new owners, comes a new board with big ambitions. They sacked their former manager a couple of weeks ago, and are yet to find a permanent replacement.

Unai Emery was one of the main targets for the board. However, the Villarreal boss rejected a return to England in favour of a stay with the Europa League winners. The Magpies are now interested in recruiting former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe to take charge of the first team.

According to the Mirror, Howe is in ‘pole position’ to land the job. The 43-year-old has been out of a job since leaving Bournemouth at the end of the 2019/20 season. He guided them from the fourth tier to the Premier League, and survived for five years before being relegated to the Championship in 19/20.

Talks are on-going between Newcastle United and Eddie Howe over their vacant manager’s position.

And now, he could make a return to the top flight of English football.

Former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is one of the other candidates that could take up the job at St James’s Park. Aston Villa are interested in Fonseca since Dean Smith is under increased pressure as of recently.

But, while Howe does not have the complete approval of the Newcastle board, he seems like one of the key candidates to take up the job.
