Intel’s Alder Lake to sport Xe GT3 GPUs

At the chipmaker’s Architecture Day 2021 the world witnessed a thorough breakdown on Alder Lake. But, the company didn’t touch on the topic of the integrated graphics that will be accompanying Alder Lake. However, the leaker Komachi_Ensaka has come out with a new reboot patch that gives us a small look at the GPUs inside the mobile Alder Lake chips.

For starters, it’s better to keep in mind that Intel’s Alder Lake-M isn’t the best performing mobile chip in Intel’s lineup, and according to a previous coreboot update Intel may segment its mobile Alder Lake into four categories. The Alder Lake-M is at the bottom of the stack with a 9W TDP and a maximum configuration with two performance (Golden Cove) cores and eight efficiencies (Gracemont) cores.

According to reports, Intel has reportedly ported the Gen12 Xe LP graphics engine from Tiger Lake to the new Intel 7 process. And in the code of coreboot, we found that Intel may have only stuck with the GT1 unit for desktop Alder Lake-S processors. The GT1 solution wields 32 execution units (EUs), which are now called Vector Engines.

However, the chip from Intel could utilize up to three different integrated GPU solutions and the coreboot references to GT1, GT2, and GT3 units. According to previous rumors, We already know that the GT1 is equipped with 32 EUs, meaning that the GT2 and GT3 units must sport 96 EUs.

If the GT3 engine is involved then it could very well mark the return of Intel’s Iris graphics, which is the higher-end version of the normal HD graphics. Intel’s Alder Lake lineup will be launched in fall 2021, and the chipmaker is yet to make it clear as to whether it will be releasing the desktop chips first with the mobile variants coming after or both in tandem.
