Manchester United won an important game against Villareal at Old Trafford, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring in the 95th minute to win 2-1. The Red Devils made yet another comeback, after being down 1-0 before the hour mark.
However, at 60 minutes, Bruno Fernandes helped set up Alex Telles for the equaliser. The United number 18 took the free kick, and set up Telles, who curled a volley into the bottom corner to beat the keeper and give United half an hour to get the equaliser.
Both teams had somewhat equal offensive displays, with both sides registering 7 shots on target of a total 14 attempts on goal. Villarreal managed to register one more shot, but it wasn’t enough to produce anything meaningful. They had less possession of the ball as well, but managed to produce similar attacking outputs as the hosts.
The game really opened up following the two goals in quick succession, but Villarreal struggled to take the ball forward into United’s half. They were almost okay with getting a point off of the game. But they were challenged by United during the final stages of the game as well.
During the final minutes of the game, Lingard touched down a cross from Fred, and escaped two defenders to play in Ronaldo. The number 7 shot hard from a tight angle to beat Geronimo Rulli in the 95th minute and wij the game with no time remaining for the Spanish club to fight back.
