The incredible goal-scoring streak of Robert Lewandowski has come to an end. Bayern’s meeting against Greuther Furth on Friday night included the Polish striker in the starting lineup.

He was looking to score for the 16th time in the Bundesliga. For the first time in the league since February, he was unable to find the back of the net. Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich, and Sebastian Griesbeck (own goal) scored for Bayern, who won 3-1. We put out a list of the longest goalscoring streaks in football history in December 2019.

Jamie Vardy: 11 Matches in Premier League

At the start of Leicester’s miraculous Premier League title triumph, Vardy went on a ludicrous goalscoring spree. On August 29, he started his streak against Bournemouth, then went on to beat Aston Villa, Stoke, Arsenal, Norwich, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion, Watford, Newcastle United, and finally Manchester United. During that span, he scored 13 times.

Gabriel Batistuta: 11 Matches in Serie A

The Argentine opened the 1994/95 season with a goal, and he went on to score in each of the next ten games. He won the Golden Boot for his 26 goals that season, although, despite Batistuta’s brilliance, Fiorentina finished in 10th place.

Jimmy Dunne: 12 Matches in First Division

Between 1930 and 1933, the Irishman was a prolific goal scorer for Sheffield United, scoring 30 or more league goals in three consecutive seasons. During the 1931/22 season, he made 12 straight appearances.

Robert Lewandowski: 12 Matches in Bundesliga

Lewandowski has previously gone on a goal-scoring spree, netting 12 goals in 12 games for Dortmund in the 2012/13 season.

Serge Masnaghetti: 13 Matches in French Division 1

During the 1962/63 season, Masnaghetti scored in 13 consecutive league games for Valenciennes. He only made two appearances for France, scoring once.

Stan Mortensen: 15 Matches in First Division

During the 1950/51 season, Mortensen scored in 15 straight First Division games. His goals were vital in Blackpool’s third-place finish.

Tor Henning Hamre: 15 Matches in Meistriliiga

During his one-and-a-half-year stay in Estonia, Hamre scored 62 goals in 50 games, making him the definition of a goalscoring machine. In 2013, while playing for FC Flora, he scored in 15 consecutive games.

Josef Martinez: 15 Matches in MLS

Martinez has been a consistent performer in Major League Soccer since joining the league. After failing to make an impression with Torino, the Venezuelan joined Atlanta United in 2017. At the time of writing, he had scored 99 times in 124 games, including 15 consecutive games in 2019.

Robert Lewandowski: 15 Matchs in Bundesliga

Lewandowski is the only player who has appeared twice on the list. On February 15, 2021, he began his streak against Arminia Bielefeld. He went on to score against Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Koln, Dortmund, Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, Mainz, Gladbach, Freiburg, Augsburg, Hertha Berlin, RB Leipzig, and Bochum.

Gerd Muller: 16 Matches in Bundesliga

‘Der Bomber,’ regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time, scored in 16 straight games for Bayern Munich during the 1969/70 season.
